A Very Important Day
This morning was an ordinary one. I woke up. I took a shower. I shaved my face. I got dressed. I ate a pear. I called a taxi. It was a little before 6am, and no traffic. The taxi showed up, but that is where the normality ended.
We pulled away from the curb, heading to school, and no sooner were we on the road than four motorcycles with blue lights flashing cut in front of us. Two sped off to block side streets and two stayed right in front of me. I turned around to see who was behind us and I see no less than six black SUVs with similar flashing blue lights.
The cabbie said it wasvthe President coming in from a meeting at his "Camp David." In my head I am thought, "Yeah right!" I still don't think it was him, but it was someone important, and they allowed me to be in their motorcade. They stopped traffic for me, followed me to my school, and then kept going as I paid the fare and walked to the school gate.
It is nice to be doted on once in a while. I wouldn't mind riding in the SUV instead of a yellow cab. But, who can complain? It is not everyday the local Chemistry teacher gets a full motorcade, in a yellow cab, to school. It was by far the quickest way to get to school. Too bad Liz was in Suesca for a 5th grade camping trip, and it was too early for anyone to notice me in the motorcade. Oh well, at least I was there. I can still see the blue lights flashing, and the red lights as we sped through them.
